Project: Construction of a new rugby facility for Dartford Valley RFC including the construction of new 3G rugby pitch.

Cost: £4.1M

RIBA Project Stages: 0-6

The development of a greenfield site, constructing a new two-storey rugby club which included the provision for four changing rooms, a club room with kitchen & bar, a terrace and function room.

The construction of a new 3G pitch built to RFU standards, which allows for rugby matches to be played with floodlighting provided to the main pitch. There is a future opportunity to provide further grass pitches to the remainder of the site.

The opportunity

Upgrading the surrounding area adjacent to the Dartford Crossing and providing Dartford Valley RFC with a facility to play rugby matches, which they previously did not have. The high-quality facility development would encourage future generations within the local area to play rugby.

The challenge

To deliver a high-quality scheme with the design team to provide a high-quality rugby club that was within Dartford Borough Council’s budget. Co-ordinating two separate main contractors to construct the rugby club and the specialist 3D pitch in parallel under separate contracts.

The outcome

The project was completed within budget. As a result of the development, Dartford Valley RFC now have a venue to play their homes games and hope to increase the number of people playing rugby within the local area.
