Southern Link Road and Culvert

Dartford, London

Back to Projects

Client: Private Developer

Project: Construction of a new road, associated utility and drainage facilities and a new bridge.

Cost: Confidential

The construction of a new road, diversion of utilities, replacement of a damaged foul drain running under the railway line and a new culverted bridge. The site is located adjacent to the north bank of the River Thames, immediately to the west of the Dartford Crossing, bound by the C2C railway line to the north and a former food production facility to the south. The surrounding land has industrial and port related uses.

The opportunity

The construction of a new road to provide vehicular access between two operational sites which are detached from the rest of the client’s estate and separated by the inter-tidal Stonehouse Ditch. The construction of this road provides greater operational flexibility, whilst also opening up the site for future development.

The challenge

Total Project Integration managed the process of obtaining permissions and permits for the works to proceed. These included – the submission to the Local Planning Authority to discharge the pre-commencement planning conditions associated with this application, obtaining the Basic Asset Protection Agreements from Network Rail for the construction of the new link road and the culverted bridge and for the replacement of the damaged foul drain under the railway line, the commissioning of the required topographical surveys, track surveys and trackside asset surveys requested by Network Rail and obtaining relevant permits required from the Environment Agency due to the proximity of the works to a main river and the physical construction works over Stonehouse Ditch.

The outcome

The works were successfully completed in Autumn 2021.
