The Oakleaf Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at Stanwell Moor, near Heathrow, was designed to process 150,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial waste per annum enabling metals, plastics, wood, paper and card to be separated.

Any waste not separated is processed further to produce a Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), which can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels.

The 5,000 msq building, which houses the waste reception area, processing equipment and storage bays, also includes an extensive fire detection and suppression system.

The opportunity

Total Project Integration were employed by Stadler UK Limited to assist with their process machinery and plant fitout within the 5,000m² building; along with assisting in identifying and resolving any design clashes with the base build contractor.

The challenge

We had to provide a site-based role to support Stadler as principal contractor under CDM and to coordinate interfaces between Stadler’s works and the base build works, which significantly overlapped due to programme pressures.

The outcome

Our input was highly valued by all stakeholders on the project and once the original duties for Stadler UK Limited were completed, Oakleaf Limited re-engaged Total Project Integration to coordinate the outstanding completion and commissioning works required to put the facility fully into operation as swiftly and efficiently as possible.
