JAGS Community Music Centre

EAST DULWICH, LONDON

Back to Projects

Client: James Allen’s Girls’ School

Project: New-build concert hall and teaching wing in a live school setting.

Cost: £7.5M

RIBA Project Stages: 0-7

A multi-use community space with performance, teaching, and landscaped areas, improving pupil safety and widening community involvement.

The opportunity

The project provided a 500-capacity concert hall with flexible seating and staging, a teaching wing with rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, IT suites and office space, and a new combined school entrance and foyer. Landscaping works delivered a new playground and parking, with a separate pupil entrance to improve safety and security. The scheme supported the school’s ambition to enhance music facilities and encourage greater community use.

The challenge

This was a complex and sensitive community development requiring close management of stakeholders and interest groups. Construction took place during the school day in a live environment, demanding careful coordination to minimise disruption while balancing cost and programme requirements.

The outcome

The completed centre integrates high-quality music facilities with landscaped outdoor spaces, improving safety for pupils and providing a shared resource for students and the wider community for years to come.

“We are proud of our history of working with local schools, academies, arts groups and charities. This wonderful space has enhanced our ability to serve these groups. I’m delighted with the outcome and am grateful to the team at Total Project Integration for their commitment to our project and expertise in ensuring the project’s success.”
