Principal Designer / CDM Advisor

With the introduction of the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, enhanced responsibilities have now been placed on the client. The updated regulation also introduce a new duty holder, the Principal Designer, whose duties include some of the duties of the CDM Co-Ordinator, who is no longer required under the new legislation

TPI can offer a service which assists the Client to ensure compliance with their legal duties, and, dependant on our role within the project, TPI can act as Principal Designer or act as sub-consultants to the Principal Designer.

As Clients advisor we will assist Clients to meet their legal obligations under H&S legislation. We ensure that every project is properly managed and that only competent designers and contractors are appointed. 

As CDM Advisors either for the Client or the Principal Designer we can implement duties such as notifications, collate & issue pre-construction information, advise on any missing information and review & comment on the construction phase plan & welfare arrangements, and assist with preparation of, or review the Health and Safety File on completion

As Principal Designer or Principal Designers Advisor TPI will 

  • Plan, manage and monitor the pre-construction phase and coordinate matters relating to health and safety.
  • Identify and eliminate or control risks to health and safety.
  • Ensure that all other designers comply with their duties.
  • Assist the Client in preparation of the Pre-construction Information.
  • Provide Pre-construction Information to every designer and contractor appointed or being considered for appointment.
  • Assist the Principal Contractor in the preparation of the Construction Phase Plan. And advise the client of its suitability for work to commence
  • Review all reports/surveys for the project
  • Liaise with the client concerning health and safety matters

  • Obtain information for and issuing Pre-Construction Information as required to all parties and prospective contractors

  • Assist in Issuing inital notification & updated notifications to the HSE

  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor throughout the project

  • Review the Health and Safety File to be issued by the Principal Designer
